San Luis Obispo Coast Phelan Farm Scythian Wines Red Blend 2022

The wine

Scythian Wines Red Blend is an exquisite blend of historical grape varieties: 50% Zinfandel, 30% Alicante Bouschet, 10% Mission and 10% Grenache. The grapes come from old vineyards that were planted between 1905 and 1912, rooted in the sandy granite of the Cucamonga Valley. The Lopez, Francis Road and Galleano Vineyards without irrigation and are never treated with chemicals. The harvests are carried out by hand which preserves the quality of the grapes. Whole bunches are vinified through co-fermentation in open neutral fermentation vats, which allows the grape varieties to fully express themselves. The juice is then aged in used French oak barrels giving it subtle aromas and a silky structure. A small amount of sulphur is added after malolactic fermentation to stabilise the wine.
This wine unveils complex aromas of ripe red fruits, sweet spices and floral notes. On the palate, it is balanced with supple tannins and a long finish. Bottled without fining or filtration, this cuvée encapsulates the essence of the Californian terroir and pays homage to the historic vineyards of the region.
